[Case Study of Thermal Fluid Analysis Software] Thermal Design of Electric Vehicles
Optimizing thermal performance in EV design! Introducing a case where we were able to identify the main thermal issues in the design.
This is a successful case study of the thermal fluid analysis software 'Celsius EC Solver' for accurately and quickly analyzing the thermal performance of electronic devices. In Europe, there is an engineering competition called Formula Student, where student teams from engineering departments design, manufacture, validate, and race small-scale formula-style racing cars. Team Bath Racing Electric from the University of Bath in the UK needed to lower the battery temperature to meet the regulations while progressing with the design of their electric vehicle (EV) category in the competition. To achieve this, they adopted the electronic thermal fluid analysis software 'Cadence Celsius EC Solver,' which can analyze the thermal performance of electronic systems with high precision and speed. This allowed them to identify issues with the existing design and manufacture the EV based on new design proposals. [Case Overview] ■ Application Scope: Electronic devices for automobiles ■ Software Used: Cadence Celsius EC Solver ■ Benefits: Analysis speed, high precision, efficient design *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
basic information
【Summary of Other Cases】 ■Challenges - While advancing the design of the electric vehicle category, it was necessary to lower the battery temperature to meet regulations. - The design software was unable to accurately simulate the heat generation of the sub-pack, forcing reliance on basic calculations and post-assembly test results. - Verifying the heat of the sub-pack using the actual device after assembling the battery was costly in terms of time and energy efficiency. ■Results - The main thermal issues in the design were identified, and scenarios were validated to resolve these issues and achieve temperatures within the regulatory range. - The temperature was reduced to 59°C, allowing the students to manufacture the EV based on the new design proposal with confidence that it complied with race regulations. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
