[Information] Regarding the Service Life of High-Speed Line Lightning Protection Units
Introduction to the durability test for lightning surge equivalent to the nominal discharge current (10kA, 8/20μs)!
The high-speed line lightning protection unit is a lightning arrester with high protective performance that protects equipment from lightning surges. However, due to its function of absorbing lightning surges, the lifespan of the lightning protection unit is affected by the magnitude and frequency of lightning strikes. In durability tests against the nominal discharge current In (10kA, 8/20μs) of the lightning protection unit, variations (deterioration) in the discharge starting voltage indicating normal operation are observed after approximately 50 surge applications. To prove this, it has been confirmed that the electrodes of the representative component, the arrester, are deformed after exceeding 45 applications (70 times, 100 times). This does not indicate a failure of the lightning protection unit, but it does represent deterioration that affects important protective performance. *For detailed information, please refer to the PDF document.
