ISO 14001 is a standard aimed at establishing a framework that enables organizations to achieve sound environmental performance by managing the impact of their business activities and the products and services they produce on the environment, in alignment with their own 'environmental policies and objectives' set by the organization itself. The initiatives can be broadly categorized into four areas: 'Understanding environmental impacts', 'Risk management and planning', 'Operation of the PDCA cycle', and 'Creation of an environmental manual'. Through these initiatives, organizations can contribute to environmental conservation, which can lead to an improved organizational image and the creation of business opportunities. This white paper aims to introduce environmental changes, disaster cases, and their countermeasures, and will be published monthly to assist you in preparing for the acquisition and renewal of ISO 14001. This time, based on the environmental changes and disaster cases that occurred in 2023, I hope to provide insights that will serve as hints for your acquisition and improvement points for ISO 14001 in 2024.
