Metal Materials Fatigue Fracture Case: Investigation of Shaft Fracture Causes
It is possible to establish the timing for parts replacement! Here we introduce a case study on investigating the cause of metal parts breaking.
Here is an example of fatigue failure, which is a type of fracture. From several microphotographs taken at tens of times magnification, multiple ratchet marks (steps generated by the merging of fatigue fracture surfaces) were observed near the fracture initiation point. Additionally, at approximately 1000 times magnification, striations (fatigue wrinkles) were seen as wave patterns. These characteristic patterns observed in fatigue failure were noted on the fractured surface of this metal component, allowing us to conclude that this metal part failed due to fatigue. [Case Summary] - Features not discernible through macro observation (visual inspection) were revealed. - Ratchet marks and wave patterns known as striations were observed. - It was determined that the failure was due to fatigue. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.
