[Image Processing Engineer Column] The Breadth and Depth of Knowledge

Having broad knowledge and deep knowledge is the ideal for engineers. Except for special geniuses, humans are given the same amount of time each day. Therefore, a choice between "broad knowledge" and "deep knowledge" is necessary. The solution to this choice, as well as the desire for both, is "organization" and teamwork. At KIT, the company acts as a single team, engaging in problem-solving through information exchange between those responsible for deep knowledge and those responsible for broad knowledge. Humans cannot "copy and hand over the contents of their brains," so "skillfully copying and handing over" becomes the communication ability. Within the information being conveyed, there are parts that one unconsciously assumes "the other person already knows," which can lead to incomplete information transmission. To prevent this, "observing the other person's reaction" is a communication technique. Before the regular weekly meetings, we create a time called "communication time" to practice. Like a cleaning duty in elementary school, each week, a "theme presenter" takes turns using that time to decide what kind of "communication time" it will be. This column has turned into a casual chat, so I will stop here. *News is distributed through our company newsletter.
