"Columbia Agar" is used for the isolation and cultivation of bacteria with strict nutritional requirements from various samples, as well as general bacteria. The combination of casein pancreatic digest, pepsin digest of animal tissue, and beef extract allows for good bacterial growth. Yeast extract serves as a source of B-complex vitamins and, along with corn starch, plays a role as an energy source.
