Coherent Inc. (Santa Clara, California, USA) announced on May 24, 2018, that it has expanded its product portfolio of industrial laser machine tools through the acquisition of O.R. Lasertechnologie GmbH, based in Düren, Germany. O.R. Lasertechnologie offers compact and high-precision laser additive manufacturing machine tools that support processing systems for cutting, welding, marking, and engraving, as well as Direct Metal Deposition (DMD) and Selective Laser Melting (SLM) methods, which are used in a variety of applications including dental, medical, jewelry, automotive, and aerospace. Thomas Merck, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Coherent's Industrial Lasers & Systems Division, stated, "The integration of Coherent and Rofin-Sinar has been a significant driving force behind our focus on the laser machine tool sector. Furthermore, the products from O.R. Lasertechnologie will further strengthen our solution portfolio in laser additive manufacturing technology."
