[Construction Example] Continuous Casting Equipment for Steelmaking

Achieving cost reduction! Introducing examples of "hybrid actuators" installation.

Here is an example of the installation of a "hybrid actuator." It is installed at the Fukuyama Steel Works of Nippon Steel Corporation and is used for controlling the flow of molten steel in the bloom (special steel) continuous casting equipment. The viscosity of molten steel heated to 1,600°C is lower than that of water, making it a very difficult liquid to handle, and controlling its flow requires extremely fast responsiveness. This device demonstrates control performance that is at least equal to that of conventional servo valves, reducing the annual electricity costs from 5 million yen to just 90,000 yen. Furthermore, due to the very small total amount of hydraulic oil, it is exempt from fire safety regulations, allowing the use of flammable oil even in hazardous locations, thus freeing us from the complexities of waste oil disposal and environmental conservation measures.
