Optical attenuator
Optical attenuators for the purpose of creating a simulated communication environment, such as testing the limits of transmission performance of devices and the error occurrence rate due to attenuation.
Attenuators are sometimes used to protect devices from saturation of the light reception amount of photodetectors when using CATV equipment with excessive output or Ethernet LAN connections over short distances. There are fixed attenuators with a set amount of attenuation and variable attenuators where the attenuation can be adjusted. By combining these, the maximum transmission performance of the equipment can be easily measured.
