Model 435 fixes plastic or metal discs to both wheels of the guide and their center, applying a load of 0 to 3N, 0 to 10N, or 0 to 20N at the tip using spring pressure to determine the surface hardness.

The 435/S is a smaller metal disk than the 435 metal disk, and a load of 0 to 20N can be applied vertically to the measurement surface at will. In the case of adhesion of the coating, the test load is expressed in "N," and in the case of scratch resistance testing, the maximum load that does not leave a scratch on the coating surface is expressed in "N."
