The founder, Zenbee Kawakami, is referred to as the father of Japanese wine grapes. He imported numerous grape varieties and spread them throughout Japan, and through crossbreeding, he adapted them to Japan's climate and environment, producing excellent varieties such as "Muscat Bailey A," which is still a mainstay grape variety for domestic red wine, thus laying the foundation for Japan's wine industry. Iwanohara Vineyard uses these grapes, known as "Kawakami Zenbee varieties," to create high-quality wines that pair well with Japanese cuisine and suit the Japanese palate.
