Dedicated device for detecting steel wire cord defects in the tire manufacturing process.
The SIS XP developed by Germany's Roland company is a dedicated device for defect detection in tire steel wire cord materials. This device uses magnetic detection principles to continuously inspect the condition of abnormal sections and splice areas of the steel wire cord material during the tire manufacturing process, and outputs that information. It employs up to 16 sensors and can detect issues such as wire pull-out, overlapping, and irregularities with a maximum inspection effective width of 1120mm, as well as determining normal and abnormal splice areas based on pre-input data and outputting the results externally.

Compared to conventional X-ray inspection devices, this system is cost-effective and continuously records all data related to tire steel wire cord materials and splice sections. It can stop the process based on abnormal detection output, allowing for the removal or repair of defective materials. It has been adopted by many tire manufacturers worldwide, including Goodyear and Michelin, establishing a high level of detection capability and sufficient reliability.

At many tire manufacturers, including Michelin and Goodyear, the splicing process after cutting involves checking for normal and abnormal conditions at the splice section, detecting any abnormalities in the steel wire, and displaying this information on an attached PC screen while also outputting it externally. Compared to X-ray inspection systems, this approach aims to reduce initial costs and enhance operational safety, contributing to a reduction in tire manufacturing costs.
