In cases where a long actuator is required, a smaller capacitance can lead to reduced power consumption, which is advantageous.
The structure is essentially the same laminated structure as the bulk stack. There is a hole in the center. The purpose of this hole is to facilitate optical alignment or electrical and mechanical design. Another advantage is that it allows for a larger diameter compared to a bulk stack with the same cross-sectional area. This increases stability against bending and shear stress, which is beneficial. Especially when a long actuator is required, the capacitance decreases, leading to reduced power consumption, which is advantageous. In dynamic applications where self-heating is expected, the ring structure offers good cooling efficiency and ensures greater flexibility.
