In this wavelength range, there are absorption bands for many important gases such as CH₄, H₂O, and CO₂, which can be applied to gas detection and concentration measurement. The devices manufactured by LED Microsensor Co. feature high responsiveness and luminous efficiency, and can be used over a wide temperature range. Standard LEDs are encapsulated in TO-18 packages, with models that include a concave reflector. Additionally, the TO-5 case incorporates either a single or dual-stage TEC (thermoelectric cooler). Several other types of packages are also available. The near/mid-infrared LEDs from LED Microsensor Co. have the following characteristics: 1. Compact size of the LED chip – 0.35 x 0.35mm 2. Ability to arrange multiple element arrays, enabling multiple wavelength emitters in a single compact package 3. No optical filter required: the emission bandwidth of the LED is comparable to the absorption bandwidth of many chemicals 4. Provides sufficient selectivity and accuracy for various sensing applications 5. Low power consumption (<1mW) 6. Fast response time 7. Operating temperature: up to +150°C 8. Lifespan: approximately 80,000 hours
