Our company conducts 5S activities at each site. As part of these activities, we have worked on visualizing the ordering timing of consumable supplies by the administrative department. *5S stands for Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain. As an improvement method, we applied the "Kanban system" from TPS (Toyota Production System) to our order management. We write the item name, item number, and ordering timing on the Kanban, and when the ordering time arrives, we issue the Kanban. By adopting the Kanban system, the ordering timing becomes clear to everyone, and since orders are placed when the Kanban is issued, we can manage without always keeping track of inventory. By working on visualizing the ordering of consumables, we have reduced the workload of administrative tasks, leading to labor-saving. Since our company conducts 5S activities at each site, the morale at each location has improved, resulting in very positive effects. We have realized that even small efforts can lead to labor savings when done in large numbers.
