Crane booms, aerial work platforms, construction machinery, and high-load components of industrial machinery are suitable for welded structures where you want to maintain strength while reducing weight. When trying to secure the necessary strength with ordinary steel or 590N/mm² grade steel, the plate thickness increases, affecting the burden on the rotating parts, vehicle weight, and load capacity, which may lead to considering a switch to WEL-TEN780. Pressure vessels, heavy oil and crude oil tanks, penstocks, bridges, and steel frames are also applicable fields for the WEL-TEN series. When switching, it is necessary to confirm the design not only based on tensile strength but also considering rigidity, buckling, fatigue, weld joints, and bending radius. For bending tests, a radius of 1.5 times the thickness (1.5t) is specified for plates up to 32mm thick, and 2.0 times the thickness (2.0t) for those over 32mm, both requiring a 180° bend. For high-strength steel, managing welding materials, preheating, heat input, and interpass temperature is crucial. In areas where wear is dominant, compare including wear-resistant steel plates, and confirm which of WEL-TEN780, 780E, 780RE, or 780EX to specify at the drawing stage.
