Freely designed hot-pressed steel materials that can be manufactured in small batches with complex cross-sections that are difficult to produce through rolling.

For designers who want to produce complex cross-sections that are difficult to make with rolled steel in small lots, hot extrusion allows for the integral shaping of free cross-sections according to the die shape.

The difference between hot-pressed shaped steel and rolled shaped steel lies in the tools used to create the cross-section and their respective production volumes. Rolled shaped steel is continuously formed into a consistent cross-section using rolls, making it suitable for mass production of standard products. On the other hand, hot-pressed shaped steel is produced by extruding round billets heated to about 1200°C through a die, allowing for the creation of complex cross-sections in small batches, which is difficult with rolling. 【Recommended for the following issues】 - Unable to create the required cross-section with standard shaped steel - Want to produce a small quantity of special cross-sections - Want to combine design and structure into a single component

basic information

<Reasons for Choosing Us> - Capable of handling complex free cross-sections with die design - Individual consideration for small lot manufacturing - Balancing design and structure in a unified cross-section Our manufacturing method allows for shape changes by replacing tools, which helps reduce tooling costs compared to rolling rolls, making it easier to accommodate a variety of small quantities and model changes. At Kumagai Special Steel, we check the material, quantity, and additional processing based on drawings, using a cross-sectional shape guideline of φ215mm. Please contact us to see if it can replace rolled steel shapes or welded assemblies, or download our catalog.

Applications/Examples of results

It can be utilized in the design of members with the same cross-sectional shape extending in the longitudinal direction. In architectural members and machine parts, where standard H-beams, channel steel, and angle steel do not match the cross-section, it can be applied in processes that involve welding multiple steel materials to create special shapes. For example, architectural members that bear loads while showcasing design, machine parts that incorporate mounting or guiding sections into the cross-section, and rails or frame materials with the same complex shape extending in the longitudinal direction. When the required shape is not available in rolled steel and the expected quantity does not justify preparing dedicated rolls, the method can be switched to hot extrusion using a die of the desired cross-section. By consolidating multiple members into a single cross-section, it becomes easier to eliminate processes such as cutting, welding, distortion removal, and finishing of joints. This approach can be considered not only for new designs but also for low-volume production items, model changes, one-time orders, and redesigning repair parts. The usage load, required thickness, outer diameter, material, length, and quantity are confirmed in the drawings, and the feasibility of manufacturing the cross-sectional shape that combines design and structure is examined.
