■Zirconia ceramics substrate with toughness and ionic conductivity■ Zirconia (ZrO2) is excellent in corrosion resistance and heat resistance, and particularly superior in terms of fracture toughness and bending strength compared to alumina (Al2O3). Therefore, it is used as a primary material for high-precision dimensionally processed optical communication connector parts, ceramic cutting tools, and grinding ball media. Additionally, stabilized zirconia, which is an oxide ion conductor, is also applied in oxygen gas sensors for detecting oxygen concentration in exhaust gases. The zirconia substrate, leveraging its strong fracture toughness, is expected to be developed for ultra-thin substrates as a tool to overcome the challenges of miniaturization in electronic components.
