TVS (for USB2.0 to USB4 applications)
Choosing the appropriate TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) protects the product from latch-up.
With the development and improvement of USB interfaces and protocols, many smart products are adopting USB Type-C as their connection interface. This allows for the support of diverse video, audio, and data transmission at higher transfer speeds. At the same time, signal transmission has become more susceptible to interference from external power surges. Therefore, the use of TVS diodes for surge protection should be more stringent. However, if users pursue only TVS devices with low clamp voltages without considering other parameters such as operating voltage, there is a risk of affecting real-time communication on the Type-C interface or, in extreme cases, causing latch-up due to EOS (electrical overload), which could damage the circuit. To achieve proper and effective transient voltage surge protection in the interfaces of electronic products with complex signal and power lines, adding TVS diodes to the interface will be the most effective protection solution.

Applications/Examples of results
By using the specifications of USB 3.2 Gen2x2 and a Type-C connector, it can achieve a maximum signal transfer speed of 20Gbps and support fast charging with up to 20V/5A (100W) power through PD (Power Delivery) technology. Since Type-C increases not only data transfer speeds but also power transfer capabilities, it becomes particularly important to add TVS protection to the interface to ensure that data transmission in actual applications is not hindered by power surges and to guarantee the stability of power transmission.
