Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering - Raman Analysis of Trace Samples [Technical Document]
Technical document introducing the mechanism of Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) and examples of using the Mira system for metrology Raman.
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a phenomenon where the Raman intensity is significantly amplified, often by a factor of 10^7, when molecules are adsorbed onto nanoparticles such as gold or silver. While conventional Raman measurements are limited to detection at the order of 0.1%, SERS allows for the detection of very low concentrations in the ppm or ppb range. Metrom Raman has developed an inexpensive P-SERS kit with high stability and excellent sensitivity by printing nanoparticles onto a substrate using inkjet technology. This kit is particularly effective in the fields of forensic science analysis and food safety. This white paper introduces the mechanism of SERS and examples of the use of Metrom Raman's Mira system.
