【Process Analysis Instrument Technical Documentation】Analysis of Aluminum Hydroxide Solution
Online analysis of the concentrations of hydroxides, carbonates, and alumina in aluminum hydroxide solution using temperature titration method.
The method for refining alumina from bauxite is called the "Bayer process." Since it is more cost-effective and energy-efficient to refine aluminum directly from alumina, this method involves dissolving crushed bauxite in high-temperature calcium oxide (hereafter referred to as CaO) and sodium hydroxide (hereafter referred to as NaOH) to create an "aluminate solution." Additionally, CaO is causticized and removed by the carbonate generated from the decomposition of organic matter in the alkaline solution and the absorption of CO2 from the atmosphere. Impurities are removed at various stages of the process. The aluminate solution is filtered, and the alumina crystals that remain as solids are returned to the dissolution process for reuse. Before utilizing the filtered aluminate solution, it is necessary to measure the concentrations of hydroxides (caustic), carbonates, and alumina. This technical document focuses on online monitoring of the concentrations of hydroxides, carbonates, and alumina in the aluminate solution using the temperature titration method of the Metrohm Process Analytics 2060TI Process Analyzer or 2035 Process Analyzer. Online analyzers, process analyzers, inline analyzers.
