It is a type of pulse density modulation (PDM), and a PDM with a constant frequency is called PWM. PWM can be controlled by repeating the ON and OFF of a switch, and this high-speed switching generates a pulse waveform. By changing the duration of the pulses, it controls the power supplied to the load. PWM control has excellent controllability. For example, by controlling the rotation speed of a cooling fan motor, the speed can be adjusted in response to the temperature of the object being cooled, thereby controlling the cooling performance. (Without control, the rotation speed remains constant, which can lead to excessive cooling even at low loads.) Additionally, there is the advantage of increased quietness, as the minimum rotation speed is achieved at low loads, reducing the noise generated by the rotation.
