What is an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)? Introducing basic knowledge and the manufacturing process! Leave the design, development, and cloud construction of printed circuit boards to Nippo!
LCD is a display that utilizes the light-transmitting properties of a special substance called liquid crystal. Its operating principle involves adjusting the amount of light as it passes through the liquid crystal layer by applying voltage to the liquid crystal molecules, thereby displaying images in various colors. The manufacturing process of LCDs can be broadly divided into two parts: cell production and module assembly. In cell production, thin-film transistors (TFT) are formed on a glass substrate, color filters are bonded, and liquid crystals are injected to create the cells that form the basis of the panel. In module assembly, polarizing plates, backlight units, driver ICs, and other components are combined with the cells to finalize the LCD. The selection of liquid crystal panels varies significantly based on the product's application and user needs, with the following being important selection criteria: ◆ Response speed: Is it suitable for videos and games? ◆ Contrast ratio: Is the depth and three-dimensionality of the image prioritized? ◆ Brightness: Is outdoor visibility or readability in dark places prioritized?
