[Case Study] Conducted a coastal environmental survey in South Korea using a water temperature data logger.
Adoption of Onset's data loggers for investigating the impact of hydropower dam discharges on coastal areas.
Our company is the authorized importer and seller of the "data logger" manufactured by Onset Corporation in the United States. We would like to introduce a case study of underwater monitoring using this product. [Usage Example] ■Industry: Underwater Survey ■Organization: Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water) ■Application: Investigation of the impact of hydropower dam discharges on coastal areas Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water), a government-affiliated company responsible for the development and supply of drinking water and industrial water in Korea, has been investigating the impact of water resource projects on the ecosystem along the southern coast of Korea. This project was initiated in response to complaints from fisheries management stakeholders regarding the concern that "discharges from hydropower generation may lead to a decrease in water temperature and salinity in downstream areas, affecting shellfish production in tidal flats." For the investigation, we adopted the "HOBO data loggers for water level, conductivity, and temperature" as they are easy to use, highly reliable, and the most cost-effective method. We observed changes in temperature and conductivity at 15 locations, including three distinct branching points: dam reservoirs, estuaries, tidal flats, coastal waters, and watersheds. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
basic information
**Survey Results** ■ Temperatures vary by natural areas, dam areas, urban areas, and seawater areas, and the impact of cooling may largely be influenced by limited seasonal factors. ■ It cannot be assumed that freshwater inflow always affects water temperature reduction, and it was concluded that the discharge from hydropower generation is unlikely to influence seawater temperature. ■ Even slight changes in temperature or salinity may have some impact on the environment, making continuous data collection important. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*
