Products related to the membrane filter method for E. coli testing.
Essential for testing E. coli levels in environmental water! The time limit is 12 hours!
In October 2021, the Ministry of the Environment announced the revision of environmental standards related to water quality pollution. As a result of this revision, the standards concerning E. coli have been revised from total coliform counts to E. coli counts. The method for measuring E. coli counts is indicated as the so-called membrane filter (MF) method, which uses a membrane filter with a diameter of 47 mm and a pore size of 0.45 µm. In particular, when measuring E. coli counts, it is necessary to "store the sample in a dark place at 0-5°C (not frozen) if testing cannot be performed immediately after sampling, and it is desirable to test within 9 hours, and within 12 hours at the latest." Therefore, a micro funnel that can be used immediately after opening the bag without the need for prior sterilization is recommended. Cytiva's MicroFunnel integrates a funnel and filter, equipped with a membrane filter of diameter 47 mm and pore size 0.45 µm required for the MF method. The MicroFunnel can be easily detached by simply pinching the cylindrical part, making membrane recovery easy. It can also be connected to standard laboratory manifolds. Each unit is provided in individually packaged, gamma-sterilized form.
basic information
【MF Technology of Paul Ensuring Microbial Analysis】 The MF method is an effective technique for analyzing aqueous solutions contaminated by microorganisms and fine particles. It is approved by similar public institutions around the world and is used in various industries for the isolation of specific microorganisms, including E. coli. Compared to other microbial testing methods, the MF method allows for rapid testing of large samples, has high detection sensitivity, and enables the isolation and measurement of dispersed colonies.

Applications/Examples of results
It can be used for E. coli testing using the MF method. Especially when a large number of samples need to be tested, the sterilized and individually packaged Cytiva MicroFunnel can greatly enhance efficiency. Additionally, since the funnel and filter are integrated, the risk of contamination is also reduced.
