Silicon carbide is a melting material for casting that can simultaneously perform carbon addition and silicon addition. It can be used for both ductile cast iron and gray cast iron.

Silicon carbide (SiC) can provide the following effects when added to molten metal: ◆ It exhibits inoculation effects, reducing the chill depth and variability of castings. ◆ It can be used as an inoculant material for Si/C. ◆ It reduces the amount of oxygen in the melt, purifying the molten metal. ◆ It can extend the lifespan of refractory lining materials in crucible-type induction furnaces.
