Is it possible to have nickel plating that does not crack even when crimped with electric nickel plating?
A. It is possible to perform plating that does not crack the nickel plating film even after crimping following electroplated nickel.
After nickel plating or nickel-chrome plating, we often receive inquiries about wanting to crimp and secure parts, but the plating film tends to crack. With our plating, it is possible to achieve a crimp-resistant nickel plating. The cause of cracking in nickel-chrome plating is the nickel plating film. Regular glossy nickel plating typically has a hardness of around HV550-600, and the film often cracks when bent or stretched during crimping. However, our nickel plating allows for a crimp-resistant nickel plating by depositing a plating film with good ductility. We can accommodate both barrel plating and jig plating.
basic information
The product shown in the upper right of the image is made of aluminum die-cast ADC12 material with an Aluon chrome plating (copper + nickel + chrome plating totaling 25μm). It is designed for use in infrastructure products exposed to harsh environments, and it meets the requirement of no white rust after 500 hours in the JIS salt spray test. The cylindrical part is secured with resin, and there is absolutely no occurrence of film cracking. The chrome plating is approximately 0.45μm thick, so it is thin and not affected by the crimping, but to enhance corrosion resistance, a nickel plating of about 10μm is applied. The reason it does not crack under these conditions is due to the ductile nickel plating film. Additionally, the cylindrical part at the bottom left is zinc die-cast with copper-nickel plating and is crimped, but there are no cracks. The sub-image shows aluminum die-cast ADC12 with a matte + semi-gloss nickel barrel plating. A SUS ball is crimped into the side hole of the cylindrical part, and the film does not crack. *We would be grateful if you could feel free to contact us or request sample creation. Silvec Co., Ltd. Applications/Examples of results
The riveted part is mostly the rivet of the cylindrical section. Our company has a lot of experience in adopting it for connector housings.
