Response to the RoHS Directive by Silvex.
Regarding compliance with the RoHS Directive
All our plating is compliant! All plating and surface treatment conducted by our company comply with the RoHS Directive and REACH regulations. For example, in the past, there was a chromate treatment using hexavalent chromium to provide corrosion resistance on zinc plating and aluminum. However, the chromate coating, which is a chemical treatment using hexavalent chromium compounds, obviously cannot comply with the RoHS Directive because it contains hexavalent chromium compounds. As an alternative, we now use trivalent chromium chromate (trivalent chromium chemical treatment). The chemical treatment coating using trivalent chromium compounds does not contain hexavalent chromium compounds, as it is made from chromium hydroxide and trivalent chromium (trivalent chromium compounds). Furthermore, by generating a coating containing trivalent chromium compounds on the surface of zinc or aluminum, we can achieve high corrosion resistance.
basic information
RoHS Directive and REACH Regulation The acronym stands for the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive, which aims to reduce environmental destruction and health damage caused by hazardous substances, and is an EU regulation that restricts the use of specific hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. The RoHS Directive was enacted in 2003 and came into effect in 2006. It underwent significant revisions in 2011, with the current regulations being enforced from 2013. The initial directive is referred to as "RoHS1," while the revised directive is called "RoHS2." Additionally, in 2015, four new restricted substances were added, bringing the total number of regulated substances to ten. The REACH regulation is often discussed alongside the RoHS Directive. The purpose of the REACH regulation is to "protect human health and the environment," "ensure the free movement of chemical substances within the EU," and "maintain and enhance the competitiveness of the EU chemical industry and promote innovation." Under this regulation, entities subject to management are required to conduct risk assessments for all chemical substances and register them with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
