basic information
A non-contact bearing (static pressure gas bearing) is a bearing that supports the shaft without contact by supplying compressed air from a compressor into the bearing gap. Due to its non-contact nature, it achieves "zero wear" and "low torque." Since air is used as the lubricant, it allows for "grease-free" operation. The bearing is made of "resin," which provides advantages such as not seizing and being rust-free. It can be used as a bearing for manufacturing equipment where contamination from grease and rust is taboo. Additionally, it can be manufactured using materials that comply with food hygiene regulations.

An article presenting the results of joint research with Kinki University was published in the April 2024 issue of "Monthly Tribology."
We are conducting joint research with Kinki University on "static pressure gas bearings (non-contact bearings)" that use "air" as a lubricating fluid, which can be used even in clean environments compared to oil. Static pressure gas bearings can support rotating shafts non-contact by supplying compressed air from the outside, thereby reducing the generation of wear particles from manufacturing machinery's rotating shafts and bearings. In this study, we developed a method to analyze flow rates and the restoring force of the shaft through CAE analysis by rotating the shaft using two types of bearings: axial type (jointly developed / made of resin) and circumferential type (conventional) slot throttling static pressure gas bearings. The developed CAE analysis method enables a significant reduction in the number of experiments needed to understand the phenomena of static pressure gas bearings during shaft rotation. We aim to apply the results of this research to the practical design of static pressure gas bearings, contributing to the enhancement of cleanliness and longevity of manufacturing machinery, such as food production lines, thereby reducing maintenance burdens.

We presented research results on 'static pressure gas bearings (non-contact bearings)' in collaboration with Kinki University at the '2023 Annual Conference of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers.'
Even in a clean environment, "static pressure gas bearings (non-contact bearings)" that use "air" as a lubricating fluid can support a rotating shaft non-contact by supplying compressed air from the outside, thus reducing the generation of wear particles from the rotating shaft and bearings of machinery. 1. Evaluation of dynamic characteristics of axial slot restrictor static pressure gas bearings (jointly developed product / made of resin) Using two types of bearings, axial and circumferential slot restrictor static pressure gas bearings (conventional products), the load capacity was measured while the test shaft was rotating, and the influence of shaft rotation on load capacity was investigated. As a result, the axial type (developed product) exhibited a larger load capacity than the circumferential type (conventional product) and was able to suppress shaft runout during rotation. 2. Measurement of axial surface pressure distribution of axial slot restrictor static pressure gas bearings (jointly developed product / made of resin) An investigation was conducted on the influence of shaft eccentricity on the pressure distribution on the surface of the shaft in axial slot restrictor static pressure gas bearings. The results showed that the experimental values and CAE analysis values were almost consistent, confirming that the accuracy of CAE analysis was sufficiently secured. We will utilize this for practical static pressure gas bearing design, contributing to higher cleanliness and longer lifespan of manufacturing machinery, such as in food production lines, thereby reducing maintenance burdens.
