As the use of EVs for long-distance and heavy-duty vehicle applications increases, charging these large-capacity batteries within a reasonable time frame is seen as a significant challenge. To overcome this obstacle, the global association Charging Interface Initiative e.V. (CharIN) is collaborating with industry leaders, including Stäubli, to develop the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard and promote it as a global standard to facilitate interoperability in charging all types of vehicles. Stäubli's electrical connectors are designed to meet requirements efficiently, safely, and with long service life, even under harsh environmental conditions. These connectors feature a compact design, easy maintenance, and resistance to vibration and impact, ensuring long-term electrical contact through a patented unique MULTILAM contact technology. The large conductor cross-section of the cable assembly, in accordance with existing standards, allows the MCS system to reduce charging times and enhance customer flexibility. This becomes an essential element in the commitment to sustainable transportation. Applications The Stäubli MCS connector can be used for charging various heavy machinery. The CharIN "standards" primarily focus on commercial vehicles in classes 6, 7, and 8, such as trucks, construction vehicles, and agricultural vehicles, but the MCS connector is also applicable to buses, ships, aircraft, and other large battery electric vehicles (BEVs) capable of accepting megawatt charging.
