Only the zinc-cyanide complex dissociates, providing high selectivity for the measurement of zinc.
All metal components form complexes with cyanide. Then, by adding cyclohexanone, only the zinc complex is dissociated, and the free zinc reacts with the Zincon reagent. This reaction produces a color change, and by measuring the intensity of the color, the zinc concentration is quantified.
