[Interview booklet] Achieving cardiac regenerative medicine through rapid protein measurement
Rapid measurement of secreted protein levels derived from iPS cells! Towards the realization of cardiac regenerative medicine.
In Japan, where transplant treatments are not progressing, the realization of regenerative medicine using human ES cells and iPS cells is eagerly awaited. To achieve this, the key is to efficiently and cost-effectively remove undifferentiated cells that pose a risk of tumor formation and to recover a large quantity of purified cells. Professor Shugo Toyama and his team at Fujita Medical University Tokyo Advanced Medical Research Center successfully transplanted cardiac tissue balls created from human iPS cells into cynomolgus monkeys that had suffered myocardial infarction, leading to heart regeneration. We asked Professor Toyama about the motivation behind his research and the results achieved. Excerpt from the interview article: "Protein analysis is usually evaluated using ELISA, which takes a considerable amount of time, so we only measured it for important samples. However, with this fully automated immunoassay device, we can now obtain data very conveniently and quickly, which has greatly benefited our research along with the quality assessment of miRNA." *The full text can be accessed by downloading the user interview article via the "Download Catalog" button.
