Non-contact water removal and drying of wire cables using Sonic Corporation's blower and air knife.
We would like to introduce a successful application of the Sonic SP Dryer cable drying machine. A manufacturer of low-voltage wires and cables, as well as bare aluminum and copper wires, needed to install a spark tester before the final packaging process. This meant that the wire, running at 3000 feet per minute (900 m/min), had to be completely dried before the spark test. Due to the rapid increase in line speed, traditional methods became costly and inefficient. If the cable is not completely dried, the inspection machine may misidentify it as defective. Because of the high-speed production at 3000 feet per minute (900 m/min), Sonic recommended the SP dryer. This is a drying device housed in a box that features energy-saving air knife technology (XE 42” long) with a centrifugal blower (Sonic 150, 20 horsepower). Especially when removing water from wide products with a compressor, a large amount of air and a certain length of air knife are required. In other words, a significant cost is incurred to generate the air. Sonic Corporation's blower employs a centrifugal blower that can produce a large volume of air. This blower operates at low horsepower and can generate airflow equivalent to or greater than that of a compressor. This large volume of air creates high-speed air from Sonic Corporation's tear-shaped air knife, and the wind speed breaks the surface tension. This is how water removal/drying is performed. The electricity cost at that time is about 1/4 of the cost required for compressed air to produce the same volume of air.
