A rotary air knife that seems like it should exist but doesn't The Sonic Corporation's rotary air knife (patented) has been developed for draining (blow-off) and drying parts with complex shapes. The gaps in the air knife are angled at 15° relative to the rotating axis, allowing it to eject high-speed air while changing the blowing surface at regular intervals for the areas that require draining or drying. This effectively drains and dries the uneven surfaces and sides of the workpiece, as a single air knife passes over the workpiece multiple times. The rotary air knife can reduce energy costs compared to draining/drying done by multiple air knives. Additionally, it saves space since the installation of multiple air knives is unnecessary.

Especially when removing water from wide products with a compressor, a large amount of air and a certain length of air knife are required. In other words, a significant cost is incurred to generate the air. Sonic Corporation's blower employs a centrifugal blower that can produce a large volume of air. This blower operates at low horsepower and can generate airflow equivalent to or greater than that of a compressor. This large volume of air creates high-speed air from Sonic Corporation's tear-shaped air knife, and the wind speed breaks the surface tension. This is how water removal/drying is performed. The electricity cost at that time is about 1/4 of the cost required for compressed air to produce the same volume of air.
