The corn calorimeter is a testing device that measures the rate of heat generation and heat quantity based on the theory that "the amount of heat generated and the amount of oxygen consumed are constant (13.1 MJ per kg of oxygen)" through a method of measuring oxygen consumption during the combustion of organic materials. It is used for performance evaluation of fire-resistant materials based on the Building Standards Act. Since it allows for understanding the combustion behavior and smoke generation of various materials, it greatly contributes to research on fire resistance characteristics.
