UL Japan

UL offers 5G human exposure testing services that comply with various global standards, including those from Japan, CE, FCC, and ISED. In conjunction with the launch of this testing service domestically, we have newly introduced probes and a call box at our facility in Ise City, Mie Prefecture. This enables 5G SAR testing for devices operating in the FR1 (below 6 GHz) range. For FR2 (millimeter wave range), SAR testing is available for devices that support FTM (Factory Test Mode), while power density measurements can be provided for devices that do not support FTM. *1 SAR testing: A test that measures the extent to which electromagnetic energy is absorbed by biological tissue when a wireless device is used for a certain period. By using a probe equipped with sensors in the X, Y, and Z axes to measure the strength of the electromagnetic waves emitted by the product, the effects on the human body (thermal effects) are evaluated. *2 GCF/PTCRB: GCF (Global Certification Forum) and PTCRB (PCS Type Certification Review Board). Organizations that establish certification testing standards.

Human Exposure Testing for 5G SAR
5G is characterized by ultra-high speed, ultra-low latency, and a large number of simultaneous connections, making it essential for the promotion of IoT, including autonomous driving in vehicles, smart factories, and the activation of the entertainment sector. However, there are also concerns about the impact of 5G on the human body, and human exposure tests to determine whether electromagnetic waves emitted by communication devices such as smartphones, laptops, and GPS trackers have adverse effects on the human body are becoming increasingly important.
