Third-party verification of lasers/LEDs
UL Verified Mark - You can promote the safety of light radiation.
Laser and LED technologies are applied in various fields such as information technology, healthcare, entertainment, and the automotive industry. With the increase in products, manufacturers are pressured to differentiate their products in the market. On the other hand, for consumers, the incorporation of lasers and LEDs into more familiar products has made safety assurance an important factor in product selection. In this era, UL's Verified Mark is the optimal program to appeal to buyers regarding the safety of laser/LED light emission levels in products. Why is verification necessary? The UL Verified Mark program for laser/LED products is a third-party verification service aimed at verifying the emission levels of lasers/LEDs at reliable testing laboratories and utilizing the results in your marketing activities. By using it alongside UL's well-recognized safety evaluation services in the United States, it alleviates concerns for users and retailers while promoting brand transparency in the market. Products that measure laser/LED emission levels are categorized into three groups under this unique UL program.

Regarding the repeal of FDA Laser Notice 50 in laser certification.
The U.S. FDA has announced that it will abolish Laser Notice 50 regarding laser products by the end of 2024. After 2025, Laser Notice 50 will no longer apply to laser products manufactured, so manufacturers currently adopting this notice will need to take necessary transition measures, such as applying Laser Notice 56, and report to the FDA. Additionally, updates may also be required for UL-certified laser products. UL Solutions will support manufacturers in this regard. Safety evaluation service for electric disinfectors with germicidal lamps.
Regarding "electric disinfectors" equipped with germicidal lamps, the interpretation of technical standards (Appendix Table 8) and the interpretation of the scope of electrical appliances under the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law have been revised (Revised and enforced: December 28, 2021). As a result of this revision, it has been clarified that "electric disinfectors" are subject to the regulations of the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law not only for those that emit germicidal light solely within the device but also for those that emit light outside the device. Businesses that manufacture or import relevant products need to confirm compliance with the technical standards. The revised interpretation of technical standards (Appendix Table 8) requires consideration of the photobiological safety of electric disinfectors. UL provides services to support the confirmation of compliance with technical standards based on these interpretations. For more details, please check the "Related Links" below.
