Fluid analysis software for valves, 'Simerics MP+'
Simulate the flow characteristics of valves and volumetric pumps! A CFD software specialized for valves and pumps, which other CFD software struggles with!
Simerics MP+ is a fluid simulation tool designed to calculate the transient characteristics of various valves, pumps, and compressors. It is developed based on the thermal fluid simulation tool Simerics MP and utilizes all the features of Simerics MP. 【The following fluid analyses are possible】 ■ Free surface flow ■ Flow considering the compressibility of air contained in liquids ■ Pressure pulsation and water hammer effects ■ Coupling of pump flow with the rigid body motion of valves and cam rings ■ Flow in low to medium vacuum conditions ■ Compressible flow (subsonic) ■ Cavitation ■ Time variation of flow field (velocity vectors, pressure), flow rate, fluid forces, and torque The greatest strength is the ability to automatically create meshes even for clearances in the micrometer range, which is difficult for other general-purpose fluid analysis software!! In addition to valve analysis, there has been an increase in achievements for automotive and construction machinery oil pumps, such as vane pumps for power steering and CVTs, and trochoidal pumps for engine lubrication. *There is a lot of information that cannot be posted online. Especially, we encourage you to see the actual mesh creation and movement through a demonstration!
basic information
(1) Automatic generation of calculation meshes! Even for complex flow paths, automatic generation of calculation meshes is possible with simple button operations. Additionally, for pump chambers that involve rotation/volume changes, high-precision calculation meshes can be automatically generated using a dedicated mesh creation module. It is possible to automatically execute the movement/rotation/deformation of high-precision meshes without tedious tasks. (2) Fluid analysis of various valves and gear pumps is possible! Simerics MP+ has an automatic mesh creation function for various valves and pumps, making it easy to perform calculations for different valves and pumps. It can also perform calculations for flow paths that include valves and enable coupled analysis. (3) More accurate modeling of aeration/cavitation! It includes a high-precision cavitation model, allowing for the prediction of non-condensable gas expansion and vapor generation due to cavitation. (4) Calculation of free surface flow As a new feature, the calculation of free surface flow has become possible. It is now also possible to analyze the oil being scooped up inside the gearbox and the oil suction from the oil pan during pump startup.

Applications/Examples of results
Simerics MP+ is primarily used by automobile manufacturers and automotive-related parts manufacturers in Japan, with a proven track record in various valves, oil pumps used in automatic transmissions (AT) and continuously variable transmissions (CVT), as well as engine oil pumps. Additionally, it has a wide range of implementation results not only in the automotive industry but also globally. Examples of achievements worldwide by the developer can be found at: http://www.simerics.com/testimonials/ In overseas markets, as well as among domestic companies that have already purchased multiple fluid analysis software, there are numerous cases where Simerics MP+ has been acquired for its user-friendliness, improved accuracy, and reduced computation time in the analysis of valves, gear pumps, and vane pumps, which are types of positive displacement pumps. A case study on fluid analysis of a vane pump using 'Simerics MP+' was published in KYB Corporation's KYB Technical Report No. 53 OCT. 2016. 【Prediction of Vane Pump Characteristics through CFD Analysis】 https://www.kyb.co.jp/technical_report/data/no53j/03_technology_explanation_01.pdf
