Strong CAE software for oil pumps 'Simerics MP+'
Simulate the flow characteristics of volumetric pumps such as gear pumps and vane pumps! A CAE software specialized for pumps that other CAE software struggles with!
Simerics MP+ is a fluid simulation tool designed to calculate the transient characteristics of various volumetric pumps, compressors, and valves. It is developed based on the thermal fluid simulation tool Simerics MP and utilizes all the features of Simerics MP. 【The following fluid analyses are possible】 ■ Free surface flow ■ Flow considering the compressibility of air contained in liquids ■ Pressure pulsations and water hammer effects ■ Coupling of pump flow with the rigid body motion of valves and cam rings ■ Flow in low to medium vacuum conditions ■ Compressible flow (subsonic) ■ Cavitation ■ Time variations of flow fields (velocity vectors, pressure), flow rate, fluid forces, and torque The greatest strength is the ability to automatically create meshes even for clearances in the µm range, which is difficult with other general-purpose fluid analysis software!! Recently, there has been an increase in achievements with oil pumps for automotive and construction machinery applications, such as vane pumps for power steering and CVTs, and trochoidal pumps for engine lubrication. *There is a lot of information that cannot be posted online. In particular, please see the actual mesh creation and movement through a demo presentation!!
basic information
(1) Automatic generation of calculation meshes! Even for complex flow paths, automatic generation of calculation meshes is possible with simple button operations. Additionally, for pump chambers that involve rotation/volume changes, high-precision calculation meshes can be automatically generated using a dedicated mesh creation module. It is possible to automatically execute the movement/rotation/deformation of high-precision meshes without tedious tasks. (2) Fluid analysis of various gear pumps is possible! Simerics MP+ has mesh creation capabilities for various pumps, including different gear pumps, making it easy to perform calculations for a variety of pumps. It also has a mesh creation function for valves, allowing for calculations of flow paths that include valves, and coupled analysis is also possible. (3) More accurate modeling of aeration/cavitation! It includes a high-precision cavitation model, enabling the prediction of non-condensable gas expansion and vapor generation due to cavitation. (4) Calculation of free surface flow It is now possible to analyze oil scraping inside the gearbox and oil suction from the oil pan during pump startup.

Applications/Examples of results
Simerics MP+ is primarily used by automobile manufacturers and automotive-related parts manufacturers in Japan, with numerous achievements in applications such as oil pumps for automatic transmissions (AT) and continuously variable transmissions (CVT), as well as engine oil pumps. Globally, it has a wide range of implementation achievements not only in the automotive industry but also across various sectors. Examples of achievements worldwide by the developer can be found at: http://www.simerics.com/testimonials/ In addition to overseas use, many companies in Japan that have already purchased multiple fluid analysis software packages also acquire it for the ease of use, improved accuracy, and reduced computation time in analyzing volumetric pumps such as gear pumps and vane pumps. A case study on fluid analysis of a vane pump using 'Simerics MP+' was published in KYB Corporation's KYB Technical Report No. 53 OCT. 2016.
