Polarographic High-Function Dissolved Oxygen Meter ■Overview of Membrane-Type Polarographic Electrode Oxygen that passes through the membrane in an oxygen cell composed of an anode, cathode, and electrolyte is reduced at the cathode, generating a reduction current that flows between the electrodes proportional to the oxygen concentration. In this case, the method of measurement is the polarographic method, which applies a constant external voltage (−0.5 to −0.8V) between the electrodes. The polarographic oxygen electrode uses silver (Ag) for the anode and gold or platinum for the cathode, and the electrode can be used for a long time economically by regularly performing maintenance such as membrane replacement, electrolyte replacement, and polishing of the silver electrode. Additionally, the cartridge-type membrane unit is easy to replace, has a fast response speed, good reproducibility, and allows for stable DO measurements.
