3M Japan Co., Ltd. was founded in 1960 as the first local subsidiary of 3M in Asia. It imports and sells adhesive tapes, reflective materials, adhesives, abrasives, and other products, contributing to Japan's rapid economic growth. In 1961, it established the Sagamihara office, which has become the base for its current research and development activities. In 1970, it established the Yamagata office of 3M Japan Products Co., Ltd., which serves as one of the largest manufacturing bases in Japan and provides products not only to the 3M Japan Group but also to 3M companies overseas as a global "super hub."
