【Leyline Adoption Results】Digitalization of Organic Waste Composting Know-How
Kagoshima Prefecture's Osaki Town, which boasts the highest recycling rate in Japan, and Oaknet IBS have collaborated to start a "demonstration experiment for sharing know-how on composting food waste," in which Advanet's "Leyline" has been adopted as a wireless temperature sensor device to collect data necessary for temperature management during the composting process. The most important aspect of composting work is managing the temperature during the fermentation process, which varies between 60°C and 90°C. Compost exists in a high-temperature, high-humidity environment, where corrosive gases are generated as organic matter decomposes. As a result, temperature sensors are prone to corrosion and degradation, requiring regular maintenance and replacement. Additionally, to manage the composting process, automatic collection, storage, and analysis of temperature measurement data are necessary. To address these challenges, Advanet and Oaknet IBS have developed an IoT platform that combines a wireless temperature sensor device for automatic measurement and collection of compost temperature with a dashboard to visualize temperature and compost stirring timing. This platform is being tested and operated in the compost pits of an organic factory in Osaki Town that composts household waste.

Contributing to the food waste composting project in Osaki Town and Oaknet IBS with temperature sensors.
Advanet's product (Leyline) was featured in a press release from Oosaki Town in Kagoshima Prefecture, which boasts the highest recycling rate in Japan, and Ouknet IBS. The press release announced the start of a collaborative demonstration experiment for composting food waste, in which Advanet is participating by providing Leyline as a temperature sensor capable of temperature management even in high-temperature corrosive environments. This will digitalize the temperature management of the composting process, leading to improved work efficiency and reduced burden on staff. This demonstration experiment is also expected to contribute to the dissemination of waste treatment technology both domestically and internationally. For more details, please refer to the press release.
