Infrared absorber that enables laser welding of transparent resins.
The previously unachievable "laser welding between transparent resins" is now possible with the infrared absorbent developed by Fujifilm Corporation!
Laser resin welding is a method that uses a high-energy density laser beam to melt and bond the welding interface of the parts to be welded. - No dust is generated during welding - No damage to internal components during welding - Capable of handling complex 3D shapes (*) - Capable of handling multiple parts or large components (*) * Features of Branson's bulk irradiation laser welding machine Due to these characteristics, it is widely used in fields such as automotive and medical applications. In laser resin welding, welding is performed using a combination of "transmissive resin (transparent or natural material)" that transmits infrared laser light and "absorptive resin (mainly black resin containing carbon black)" that absorbs laser light and generates heat. As a result, welding could not be established between transmissive resins since there was no absorption and heat generation of infrared laser light. However, with the cooperation of Fujifilm Corporation, by applying their developed infrared absorbent to the interface of the transmissive resin, it became possible to generate absorption and heat from the laser light even with transmissive resins, allowing for welding. The company's infrared absorbent changes to colorless and transparent when laser light is irradiated, thus not affecting the appearance, making it suitable for products that require aesthetic beauty and high visibility.

After welding transparent resins using Fujifilm's infrared absorbent, one of the advantages of this product is that it changes to colorless and transparent when laser light is irradiated, thus not affecting the appearance of the product.
-
Unlike conventional laser welding, where the laser beam scans, this is a simultaneous irradiation type laser welding machine that irradiates laser light to the areas to be welded at the same time. Since all welding points melt simultaneously, it enables "sinking welding," which is essential for stable welding.
