basic information
TECHSPEC calcium fluoride (CaF2) windows have a transmission wavelength range from 250 nm to 7 μm. Due to their low light absorption and ability to withstand strong light energy, they are widely used as optical elements for excimer lasers. Additionally, because of their low refractive index (around 1.3 to 1.4), they experience minimal transmission loss due to surface reflection (Fresnel reflection), allowing for high transmission rates even without an anti-reflective coating. They are also ideal as transmission materials for thermal imaging. On the downside, their softness (Knoop hardness: 158.3) makes them prone to scratches, requiring special care during product handling, fixation, or cleaning.
