High-contrast glass polarizing filters that achieve a high extinction ratio are available in a range of sizes. A single polarizer transmits about 25% of unpolarized light incident in the 400-700nm range. The glass substrate is coated with an anti-reflective film to minimize light loss due to reflection. These filters are ideal for a wide range of industrial and laboratory applications. There is no phenomenon of transmitted light appearing bluish, which is commonly seen with standard polarizers, when used in cross-Nicol configuration.
