basic information

This is a wavelength plate with a sandwich structure, where a thin birefringent polymer is sandwiched between two pieces of glass. A wavelength plate that uses polymer instead of crystal as the birefringent material is a low-cost solution that can replace crystal wavelength plates. However, in the case of this product, which has the aforementioned structure due to resin bonding, the damage threshold is relatively low compared to a single crystal plate (multi-order) or a wavelength plate configured with two crystal plates (zero-order), and it is mainly used for low-power lasers or similar multi-color light sources (note that the damage threshold of this product is not standardized). Since the birefringent polymer is designed with the same film thickness as True Zero, the stability of the phase difference obtained against wavelength shifts and oblique incidence is generally superior to that of multi-order plates (the stability of the phase difference obtained against temperature changes is not very promising due to the birefringent material being resin). Additionally, the wavelength plate designed for a wavelength of 560 nm is beneficial as a wavelength plate for white light sources, as this wavelength is located almost at the center of the visible spectrum. *You can download the catalog from Edmund Optics Japan, which features this product, from the link below.
