basic information
While having the same cylindrical shape as a rod lens, the light pipe that uses the cross-section side as the entrance and exit surface is used to achieve uniformity in uneven lighting areas. The light entering the light pipe undergoes successive total internal reflections, mixing its spatial light intensity distribution and ultimately forming a uniform spatial light intensity distribution. This product, which has a hexagonal cross-sectional shape, can improve the amount of light that can be incident by about 35% compared to conventional light pipes with a square cross-section. Additionally, using multiple units of this product facilitates integration. Even in light sources with multiple emission points, the lighting area can be made uniform regardless of the spectral distribution from each individual emission point. It should be noted that the uniformity of the light intensity distribution improves as the length of the pipe increases (the more total internal reflections occur within the pipe). Three types of light pipes are available in the lineup to match the numerical aperture (NA) of the light source that needs to be uniformized. *You can download the catalog from Edmund Optics Japan, which features this product, from the link below.
