basic information

The master product of the blazed diffraction grating is created by performing scribing (using a ruling engine) on a glass substrate coated with aluminum. This product is a replica, where the grating shape of the master product is transferred onto an epoxy resin coated on the glass substrate, and a reflective metal film is applied to the surface, resulting in a reflective diffraction grating. Unlike holographic diffraction gratings that have a sinusoidal grating shape, blazed diffraction gratings have a sawtooth grating shape. This grating shape generally provides a higher diffraction efficiency compared to holographic diffraction gratings. In particular, the peak efficiency at the design wavelength (blaze wavelength) in a Littrow configuration is especially high, making it primarily suitable for applications that require high throughput. As one moves away from the blaze wavelength, the diffraction efficiency tends to drop sharply, which is also a characteristic that makes the blazed type effective for narrowband use. *You can download the catalog from Edmund Optics Japan that features this product from the link below.
