[Poka-Yoke Example] Prevention of Half-Locking of Connectors
Achieves half-lock prevention between connectors connected to the wire harness.
We received a request from an automotive parts manufacturer stating, "We want to prevent unlatched (half-locked) conditions during the wire harness connector mating process." In response to our customer's request, we developed a dedicated tool (hereinafter referred to as "Connector Mating Checker") to confirm that the connectors connected to the wire harness used in the customer's production process are in a locked state. By equipping the Connector Mating Checker with the mistake-proofing transmitter TW-800T, we created a system that "wirelessly transmits work performance when it is confirmed that the connectors are in a locked state." 【Mechanical Design】 (1) Wireless transmission occurs only when the connectors are in a locked state. (2) The design allows operators to easily perform confirmation tasks (achieving a size that fits in hand). (3) Confirmation tasks can be performed on connectors located in narrow spaces. Since numerous connectors are used in automobiles, it is expected that this system can be applied to connectors of other shapes, leading to the horizontal deployment of half-lock prevention (mistake-proofing) for connectors. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

■Overview of Connector Engagement Checker In the process of connecting wire harness connectors, when it is confirmed that the connectors are locked together, the work performance is wirelessly transmitted. A dedicated tool (Connector Engagement Checker) tailored to each connector shape is equipped with a switch that only transmits wirelessly when the connectors are in a locked state. ■Other Connector Engagement Poka-Yoke As a "poka-yoke for board connector engagement," we also offer a "Pull Checker." In the process of connecting board connectors, when it is confirmed that the connectors are locked together, the work performance is wirelessly transmitted. If the connector is securely engaged, the Pull Checker will not allow it to be pulled out, and it is designed to transmit wirelessly. *If you have issues with half-lock problems with connectors, please contact us. Hertz Electronics Co., Ltd. will sequentially release three new products as part of its "Poka-Yoke Tools," a group of IoT tools that support the prevention of operator errors (poka-yoke) in production processes such as assembly and inspection, where high quality is required. The new products are the insertion unit "PU-SX," the pulling unit "PC-SX," and the screw locking agent attachment "TFC-100-01-850." The PU-SX and PC-SX are products that enable poka-yoke for various insertion and pulling tasks, such as connectors and clips for circuit boards, by exchanging the tip and spring. Additionally, the TFC-100-01-850 allows for poka-yoke in the application of screw locking agents by being retrofitted to your existing screw locking agent (bottle). These products will be showcased for the first time at our booth (booth number: S31-8) during the "9th Smart Factory EXPO," which will be held from January 22 (Wednesday) to January 24 (Friday), 2025, at Tokyo Big Sight, South Exhibition Hall, 4th floor.
