DM 718 is a nickel-based superalloy equivalent to Inconel 718, known for its excellent heat resistance. It has been developed for Digital Metal binder jet metal 3D printers. DM718 exhibits high strength and corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures and is widely used in aerospace, turbines, rocket engines, turbo pumps, and similar high-temperature environments, as well as in cryogenic applications. Inconel materials are generally known as alloys that are difficult to machine, but Digital Metal's binder jet technology allows for free-form shaping with fewer design constraints. The strength of DM718 primarily derives from the γ” precipitates in its metal structure. This enhances the weldability of DM718 compared to other high γ precipitate-strengthened alloys, which are generally considered difficult to weld.
